Tēnā koutou e te whānau,
We warmly welcome the following students and their families into our School Community:
Oscar, Room 13; Nathen, Room 13; Haidy, Room 7; Natalie, Room 4 and Declan, Room 2.
As a new school term begins, I wanted to take a moment to welcome you back to our school community. We are thrilled to have your tamariki back in the classroom, ready to learn and grow.
Our dedicated team of kaiako and kaimahi are committed to providing a safe, supportive, and engaging learning environment for your tamariki. We have a busy term ahead with swimming for all classes, Science Fair for our senior tamariki and our first whole school mass at St Francis of Assisi Parish Church to celebrate St Benedict’s Day at 11:30am in Johnsonville. We finish this term with update reports and parent teacher interviews in weeks 9 and 10.
As always, please do not hesitate to reach out to us if you have any questions or concerns. We value your partnership and look forward to a successful and rewarding school term ahead.
Families of Faith:
Our first session for Year 1 whānau is being held 11th of May at 5:30pm. There is a flyer with more information within the newsletter. You have chosen to send your child to a Catholic School, where faith is integral to every aspect of your child’s growing and learning. Our faith is a gift from God that is encouraged by instruction and example. It needs to be both LEARNT and LIVED. The family is therefore the best place for your child to grow in faith. is a new series for parents of New Entrants and Year 1 students, tailored to help you accompany your young child in the early years of the faith journey. Join us for a dynamic evening that will encourage your own understanding of faith and help you engage with your child’s faith-based learning.
All parents and caregivers are welcome and encouraged to attend. This is- an opportunity for you to ask questions and join in conversation with other parents on the same journey.
Upcoming Events from our calendar:
HoK Mother’s Day Gift Shop -we are collecting donations for the Mother's Day Shop run by HoK. Please see the HoK Section for more details
Electives start tomorrow with all tamariki exploring an area of interest. Electives finish in Week 9.
Swimming has begun for all classes this term Year 7/8 are on Tuesdays, Years 3-6 on Thursdays and Years 1-2 on Fridays.
Week 5 we will be celebrating the different cultures of our school community as we lead up to Pentecost in our churches calendar on the 28th of May. On Friday 26th of May we will have a cultural dress day, celebrate a liturgy at school and collect non-perishable items for donation to the Soup Kitchen.
Week 7 we celebrate our first Kings Birthday public holiday and school will be closed on the 5th of June. Week 7 also signifies the start of Jumping June (formally jump rope for heart) and we will all be learning new skipping skills throughout June.
Measles and Whooping Cough/Pertussis:
You may have seen recent news articles about the rise of Measles cases and Pertussis across New Zealand. Both illnesses can be life threatening to babies and older whānau in our community. It is timely to check that your child is up to date with their vaccinations. If our school was to have a case of measles all students and staff who are not immunised or do not have an immunity are required to isolate.
Mā te Atua koutou e manaaki, e tiaki hoki,
May God bless and care for you,
Tania Savage - Principal

Mother’s Day Student Shop - Friday 12th May
This Mother’s Day, HOK is organising an in-school ‘shop’ where students can choose small gifts for the mothers and mother figures in their lives. We want the children to have the joy of choosing a gift for their loved ones without the stress of wondering whether they have enough money. The shop will be open during the school day on Friday 12th of May and students will shop with their classes.
We need donated items! In order to have enough inventory for students to shop, we’re asking
families to donate gently used or not needed small, giftable items. Please send items to school
- drop items off in the collection box in front of the school office.
If anyone has wrapping paper/bags or cellophane they would like donate, please send them along too to help the children package the gifts they select.
Some ideas include:
Books
Candles
Costume jewellery
Small picture frames
Unopened beauty items
Unopened candies or chocolates
Small notepads/notebooks
Scarves
Mugs
Biscuits
Seeds for garden
Ornaments
The disco is coming!

Thank you – Secondhand uniform sale
Our secondhand uniform sale took place on 23 April.
A huge thanks to the people who made it happen behind the scenes to sort and pack, and to the
helpers at the sale on the day. We raised around $1700!
If anyone missed the sale and is looking for second-hand long sleeved winter polos in small sizes or small size tunics there are a good number left. You can still purchase them via Coralie at the school office.
