School Board Departures

The St Benedict's School Board would like to announce the following members who have recently resigned from the board.
John Lawson (Proprietor Representative), Amanda Gardner (Proprietor Representative), Anna Radich (Parent representative).
John Lawson has sat on the board for a number of terms, firstly as a parent and then as a representative of the St Francis of Assis Parish. Thank you John for all you do for our faith community. Amanda has been on the Board for over three years and has provided invaluable insight on many subjects and has supported the Board on a number of key items during her time. Anna and her family have returned to Auckland and we thank her for contributions to the Board.
The St Benedict's charter states the Board of Trustees will be made up of five parent representatives, four Proprietor representatives, one teacher representative and the Principal. Our current trustees are:
Parent Representative:
- Daniel Marks - Presiding chair
- Duncan McDonald
- Lucy Woollaston
- JP Tocker
Proprietor Representative:
- Ruth Burns
- Erica Willoughby
Teacher representative: Clare Short
Principal: Tania Savage
The resignation of a parent representative means that the school will need to hold an election for that position. The School will appoint an election officer in the coming weeks and call for nominations.
The Proprietor Representative are not an elected position but an appointment by the Archbishop. If you would like to be considered as a Proprietor Representative please contact Tania Savage.
Thank you to all the members who volunteer their time to assist in the smooth running of our school.
Working Bee Organiser Required
The School Board are seeking a volunteer to run an upcoming whole school Working Bee. If you have experience running events or in the area of construction/landscaping etc, we have need of your expertise.
Sokry keeps our school looking amazing, however, there are a few jobs that require the support of many hands.
If you think you may have the skills to support the School Board to organise a Working Bee with our comunity and would like further information of the jobs we hope to accomplish please get in touch with Tania principal@st-benedicts.school.nz

We will be launching our new School App next week. Through the app you will be able to submit absences, check your accounts and print invoices, find a quick link to our newsletter and school calendar, as well as receive school communication notifications. As we transition our communication you will receive messages through the app and email to ensure school messages are not missed.
Uniform
We are starting to see an increase in non-uniform jerseys/hoodies and shoes and socks as we move in to wearing the winter uniform for Term 2 and 3. We are also noticing an increase in the wearing of nail polish and earrings that do not follow the guidelines of studs or sleepers. Please support us to ensure your child is wearing the correct uniform as they leave from home to school each day. Non-uniform clothing will be held in the office for collection at the end of the week.
Carving/Whakairo knowledge
We have the opportunity to repurpose the old pews of St Benedict's Church by creating carvings/Whakairo for our school. However we are unsure whether the wood is suitable for this use. If you know anyone who might have that knowledge, and would be willing to advise us whether the wood would be suitable, please get in touch with me.
Mā te Atua koutou e manaaki, e tiaki hoki,
May God bless and care for you,
Tania Savage - Principal

St Ben's ASC School Holiday Programme
Kia ora all Parents and Caregivers,
Firstly I would like to thank all those families for their interest in our first school holiday programme. Despite not yet reaching our magic number of 20, the response has been extremely positive. We have had a lot of interest including some families who have already made arrangements for the July holidays but are very keen to join us in September should we proceed with another programme.
As per our email of 8 May 2023, we advised our schedule of activities was still in the process of being finalised. This process is now complete and I am proud of the way the After School Care team have come together to discuss ideas and design the attached document.
Enrolments for our programme in July will be open to 6 June 2023. Feliz, Marcus and I are very committed to making the week enjoyable for your child(ren). If we do not proceed with the programme in the July holidays, those who have enrolled will be advised and we will look at opening enrolments for September in Term 3.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
Donna Wilson
ASC Supervisor

Are you and your whānau protected from measles?
With people travelling overseas again, there’s a risk that someone with measles could unknowingly bring the disease back to Aotearoa.
Measles spreads easily and quickly, usually between people who are unimmunised or only partially immunised. It can be serious and life threatening. In the 2019 measles outbreak in Aotearoa more than 30% of the people infected had to be admitted to hospital.
The best protection against measles is the free MMR vaccine. It will protect you and your whānau, and prevent the virus from spreading.
You will be protected against measles if you:
- had 2 doses of the MMR vaccine
- had measles before
- were born before 1 Jan 1969.
If you’re unsure if you or your tamariki have had any or both doses of the MMR vaccine, check by calling your GP or hauora provider. Alternatively, check your Plunket Well Child Tamariki Ora book. If you’re still not sure, be safe and get immunised – there are no safety concerns with having an extra dose. MMR vaccines are free at your local health provider and many pharmacies.
As measles still occurs in many countries, if you’re travelling overseas these holidays it’s especially important to be immunised to prevent the risk of being unknowingly infected and causing an outbreak in Aotearoa on your return.
More information about the measles vaccination can be found here:
